Lucas Beaufort Artist Residency in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

In February, French artist Lucas Beaufort came to House of Somos in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, for an artist residency.

Before making anything, he took time to understand the place. He explored the beaches, the jungle and the quieter corners of town, letting Santa Teresa shape the experience before it shaped the work.

Once he settled into the rhythm of Somos, the residency took on a life of its own. People coming and going, boards being shaped, music playing, long conversations, new faces. Somewhere inside all of that, Lucas started creating.

His work is unmistakably his own. Bold characters, loose lines and a sense of imagination that feels completely free. During his time here, Santa Teresa found its way into that world through color, movement and energy.

What stayed with us just as much as the art was Lucas himself. His way of seeing things, talking to people and staying open to whatever came next felt completely connected to the work.

“I like reminding people that they are allowed to dream, and that those dreams can become real.” — L. Beaufort

You’re Allowed to Dream follows Lucas through his residency at House of Somos and the ideas, people and place that shaped what came out of it.
