Somos Dos, Episode One: Testing Lovemachine Surfboards in Costa Rica.

At House of Somos, surfing is our favorite excuse to have fun, experiment, connect, and sometimes pretend we know what we’re doing. We’re lucky to be in the perfect place to fuel this madness. Not only do we have a backyard wave machine that never stops, but also a shaping bay, where boards are born and dreams are tested. Over time, this space has become a playground not just for us, but for an eclectic mix of shapers and surfers who bring fresh ideas and new energy. The friendships and projects born here are hard to put into words, but what keeps us going is the constant search for that next spark of creativity.

A couple weeks ago, we worked on something that feels like a natural extension of what we do. We called it Somos Dos, a two-man board review (for twinnys)  on a mission to ride, roast, and rate the boards that roll out of our shaping studio. In each episode, our team rider Max Ascher pairs up with a different partner-in-crime, whether it’s a local wave horder, a traveling pro, or that friend who spends way too much time in the water. Together, they put one board through the wringer, sharing honest takes, unexpected insights, and more than a few laughs.

For our first episode, we dove straight into the deep end with Lovemachine Surfboards by Ryan Lovelace, shaped and glassed in-house. On the menu were two asymmetrical weapons: The Zambal and The Satellite. Max teamed up with Costa Rican pro Anthony Fillingim, the guy who spent COVID lockdown scoring perfect waves in the Mentawais while the rest of us were stuck at home scrolling. Safe to say, the bar was set high.

This series is meant as a reminder that surfing should be fun above all else. Consider this your open invitation to swing by, check our surfboard shaping and laminating facilities, and even walk away with your own custom Lovemachine. Perhaps you’ll be one of the lucky few to understand exactly why they’re called love machines.

And if you’re on the fence, we get it, nothing beats trying before you buy. That’s why we’ve got demo quiver of rentals. Just leave something of value behind: car keys, passport, girlfriend, boyfriend… your choice.

Shaped here. Glassed here. Tested here.
