Douglas De Castro
Upcoming residency: February 1 – February 28
Douglas de Castro is a Brazilian visual artist, born and raised in Goiânia, Goiás. He holds a degree in visual arts with a bachelor's in graphic design. At a young age, he founded the internationally renowned muralism and illustration duo Bicicleta Sem Freio, participating in exhibitions in London, San Francisco, Berlin, and Miami, and creating murals in places such as Switzerland, Hong Kong, Doha, New Delhi, Portugal, Hawaii, Madrid, Italy, and the United States.
He is currently dedicated to his individual artistic production, exploring different materials, techniques, and paths. As such, his new body of work goes in another direction, focusing on the human experience as an individual, on our ability to create incredible things and simultaneously float between dichotomies and contradictions that permeate existence itself: between excess and complete absence, between routine and surprise, fun and pain. Everything happens at the same time, while our bodies transform, time passes, and we are confronted with the inevitability of finitude.
