How to Get to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Bad roads lead to good places. Santa Teresa, a hidden gem on the Nicoya Peninsula, is the ultimate destination for surfers, adventurers, and free spirits alike, but getting here can be an adventure of its own. Whether you're flying into San José or Liberia, here's exactly how to reach us.
Flying to Santa Teresa
The easiest and most scenic route. Sansa and Green Airways run daily 30-minute flights from San José and Liberia to Cobano Airport, and we can arrange a shuttle for the final 25-minute ride to Somos.
Driving to Santa Teresa
For a more budget-friendly trip, or if you believe the journey matters as much as the destination, drive. From San José, it's about two hours to Puntarenas, then a scenic ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera. From Liberia, plan on 3.5 to 5 hours around the peninsula through Paquera. Car rentals are available at SJO, and some companies, like Europcar, let you drop off in Santa Teresa.
Shuttle Service
Sit back and enjoy the views. Email bookings@houseofsomos.com or message us on WhatsApp and we'll book your shuttle.
Travel Tips
Domestic flights don't operate at night, so if you land late you may need a night in San José. The Puntarenas ferry schedule can shift and lines get long in peak season, so arrive at least 30 minutes early. Driving from Liberia, take the route through Paquera and Cobano: it's longer, but it avoids unpredictable river crossings.
Once You're Here
Motorcycle and quad rentals are available through the Somos team, so your wheels can be waiting when you arrive.
