Your heels and toes do different jobs. Donald Brink shapes accordingly. Originally from Cape Town and based in San Clemente, he builds asymmetrical boards around stance, ankle movement and the way a surfer distributes weight. The outline starts making sense once there’s a person standing on it.

His boards are designed to go left and right, with different demands built into each side. Every unusual curve has something to answer for. Donald keeps asking how the board can work more naturally with the body riding it. Have a look. Then have a go. Not only do they work good, they also look like art installations.
