Rob Lan

East Coast / Oahu, Hawaii

Rob Lan’s route runs from the East Coast to Oahu, with time in the glassing room feeding the boards he shapes himself. Less consistent surf taught him to value paddle power and glide. Hawaii gave him reason to make sure the same board could hold a line when things got heavier.

He brought that thinking to SOMOS and put twenty-two boards through the bay in two weeks. First, he surfed the boards in our rental rack and got acquainted with the beach break out front. Then he shaped. A fairly sensible place to start when the testing ground is two minutes away.
