Mike Minchinton
Huntington Beach, California
Thirty-five dollars and a kit from a boat-resin shop. That was Mike Minchinton’s entry into boardbuilding in 1969. He sold the first board, bought another kit and kept going. The years that followed took him through Huntington Beach sheds and factories, and into a long shaping relationship with Robert August.
Longboards, pintails, performance shapes. Mike’s range comes from decades spent making them, with surfers like Alex Knost carrying his work into another generation. An International Surfboard Builders Hall of Fame inductee whose education started with a cheap kit and a reason to make the next one.
